Meeting with a personal injury lawyer? Do this to prepare

Imagine driving through Williamsport. It's Monday morning and you are running a bit early for work. Early enough that you have time to stop by your favorite cafe and pick up a coffee and bagel. You slow down and turn your blinker on to make the right turn into the cafe's parking lot that is about a block away.

Just as you are about to make the turn, a car plows into the back of your vehicle. Instead of getting coffee, you now have to make a police report, watch as a tow truck drives off with your vehicle and go get a medical evaluation. If you were going to have to take a personal day, this is not how you would have preferred to do it.

After suffering an injury in a car accident, you might be considering consulting with a personal injury attorney. If you choose to go this route, it is a good idea to prepare for that first meeting. Here are suggestions for how to get ready for your meeting with a personal injury lawyer.

General information

There is certain general information you need to gather to take with you to the meeting. This includes the name and address of the ambulance service you used as well as the name and address of the hospital that it took you to. You also need to provide the date you receive medical treatment and the names of every doctor or medical professional that you visited for treatment of your injuries. In addition, bring in a list of everyone involved in the car accident, including the at-fault part and any witnesses.

Documentation

You should have plenty of documentation that relates to the accident. For example, you might already have a copy of the police report along with medical bills and records of treatment. Your attorney will want these documents. You may also need to bring written copies of the estimated damages to your car, a copy of your insurance policy and generally any other documentation that relates to the accident.

If you have suffered an injury due to a car accident with a negligent driver, you might be able to take legal action. If you choose this route, the above tips can help you prepare for your first meeting with an attorney.
